The Melvins then released three “solo” EPs,[12] following the concept and imitating the cover artwork inspired by the four Kiss members’ solo albums released in 1978. King Buzzo, Dale Crover, and Joe Preston were all released in 1992 on Boner Records. Later in 1992, they released the full-length album, Lysol, which had to be renamed Melvins because Lysol was a trademarked name. Preston departed from the band.

Dave Grohl’s story is pretty good.
